McMurdo Noval Valve Socket, with 55 Year Old Manufacturing Fault

As fitted to Vox A50 MkII, LTP phase splitter, amp belonging to SONS Records.

Valves just wouldn't sit right in it. On close examination there was something obstructing the socket hole for pin 8.
Removing the contact revealed that a waste offcut, matching the piece stamped out for the contact's eyelet, had found its way between the jaws of the contact, which it fitted exactly.

Its length allowed the contact to function but prevented that valve pin (and hence the valve) from being pushed fully home into the socket.
With the offcut removed and contact refitted into the socket, it now works perfectly, for the 1st time in nearly 60 years.
